Greenhouse Grow Lights

Under glass, the fixture is not the light source. It is the difference.

A sealed room has one lighting problem: put the design intensity on the canopy. A greenhouse has a harder one: put on however much is missing today, and put it on in a spectrum that complements what came through the glass rather than duplicating it — while the fixture itself sits in the light path and shades the crop it is supposed to help.

That changes what a good greenhouse fixture looks like. Narrow, so it shades less. Dimmable across the full range, because the deficit changes hour to hour and month to month. And weighted toward the ends of the spectrum, because that is where winter daylight under glass is weakest.

The lighting logic we design to

Design to the deficit, not to a fixed setpoint. The number that matters under glass is the daily light integral your crop needs minus what the glass actually delivers. That gap moves with season, latitude, glazing, shading screens and how dirty the roof is. Send us your location, glazing type and target DLI and we will work the deficit with you before specifying anything.

Complement daylight rather than repeat it. The DS320G's spectrum is shaped for this: a blue peak near 450nm, a broad 540–660nm band, then a red peak near 690nm with a far-red tail. Daylight under glass is already strong through the middle of the band and weak at the ends, particularly in winter and at the shoulders of the day — pushing the red peak longer and extending the far-red tail puts energy where the glass is not.

Dim against the day, don't switch against it. The DS320G dims 0–100% across the full grow and flower cycle. Run it up as natural light falls and back as it returns. Grouped through the GC001, a house is scheduled by zone with sunrise and sunset ramps of 1 to 60 minutes rather than hard on/off steps — which matters more under glass than in a sealed room, because the crop is already tracking a natural transition.

Narrow fixtures shade less. The DS320G is 31.89 inches long and 3.35 inches wide, and concentrates its 896 µmol/s into a 2ft × 3ft flowering strip rather than spreading it over a floor. Under a gutter you are lighting a defined row, and a tighter strip at higher intensity is usually the right trade.

Light the bench, not just the roof. Where the roof structure will not take fixture loads — or where benches move — an extended bench frame carries the lighting on the bench structure itself. That is a standard option on our rolling benches, and it removes the roof from the problem entirely.

Questions

Before you specify

Do I actually need supplemental light in a greenhouse?
Only if your crop's DLI requirement exceeds what your glass delivers in your worst months. That is an arithmetic question, not a sales question, and it is the first thing we will work through with you. If the answer is no for eight months of the year, the right specification is a system sized for the other four.
Why does the greenhouse bar cover less area than the indoor bar at the same wattage?
Concentration. The DS320S spreads 896 µmol/s over 2ft × 4ft; the DS320G puts the same photons into 2ft × 3ft. Under a gutter you are lighting a row, not covering a floor, and the higher strip intensity is worth more than the extra width.
How do these fixtures hold up to greenhouse humidity and irrigation?
Ask us for the current IP rating on the bar range before you specify. Our full-spectrum top lights are IP65 rated on their spec sheets; the bar range's rating is not documented in the material we hold, and we would rather tell you that than quote you a number we cannot stand behind.
Can I run greenhouse and sealed-room fixtures from one controller?
Yes — same RJ12 group-control scheme, grouped as separate zones with separate schedules, within the 100-fixture limit.
